Colourful Utrecht

Walk through queer history in Utrecht City Centre: discover the rich and often hidden LGBTQIA+ history of Utrecht’s historic city centre. On the walk you’ll encounter remarkable people, places and events that have shaped the city — from centuries past to the present day: 18th century sodomite life, 19th century lesbian writer, 20th century trans artist, first Dutch feminist bookstore, oldest queer youth organisation, Dutch-Surinam professor, and much more.

Queer City Tour – guided walk: an experienced team member from Queer U Stories, Utrecht LGBTQIA+ history, guides you through the heart of Utrecht. Along the way you’ll see and hear stories of queer lives, love, activism and community. Start and finish at Cathedral Square (Domplein) in front of WW II momument (the white lady with the torch). Duration: 1 ½ hour. The route and focus are adapted to the group and its interests.

What’s ‘nice here, with #…”

Nice cities are created by nice people. After all, it’s never nice alone – it’s only nice here, with #other people.

Introducing our monthly hang out: nice here, with hosted one Thursday of the month in the heart of Utrecht – the Huis van Actief Burgerschap in the Bibliotheek Neude. This event is an informal, welcoming space to exchange bold ideas and explore new ways to make our cities… well, nice! 🌍

Whether you’re a city lover, a placemaker, or someone shaping the future of how we live and connect, this is where you belong. We’re inviting the nice people who are transforming cities in creative, critical, and fun ways.

From the housing crisis, to designing livable communities, to urban greenery, and all the challenges in between.

No edition is like the other. Each month, we come together to dive into a different topic to spark new conversations and connections. It starts with a conversation, and ends with tangible collective action!

Through real Utrecht examples and discussion, we’ll dive into how urban design, community-driven initiatives, and long-term thinking can turn dense city districts into places where people connect, thrive, and feel at home.

And of course, there is no good hangout without food and drinks! So we start each edition by sharing a dinner from a local, sustainable caterer.

Check out the upcoming editions here on our website or on our socials. Got a topic you want to explore during the hang-out? Drop us a mail!
